EDWARD ALMEIDA #459 HANDMADE SOLID SILVER OPEN-HOLED HANDMADE FLUTE WITH SOLDERED TONE HOLES AND B-FOOT

Edward Almeida has been making flutes since 1948, when he first apprenticed with Verne Q. Powell. In 1960 he was invited to become a part owner of the company, and was responsible for a number of significant innovations in flute making techniques which have since become standards in the industry. The Almeida Flute was introduced in 1969. By combining precision tooling and meticulous craftsmanship, Almeida ensured an accurately fitted and tuned instrument of consistently very high quality. Almeida flutes have a well deserved reputation for their lasting quality and for the consistently reliable sound preferred by discriminating performers worldwide. They are extremely coveted and very hard to find on the used market.

This particular flute is in beautiful original condition and has been recently stripped, cleaned and adjusted. It offers the inline G, soldered tone holes and the sought-after B-Foot. These flutes are sought-after mainly for the construction and superb mechanism but this particular flute also blows very well. It is a very rare model and a collector's dream and is ready to play. Please note that personal opinion on restoration and adjustment on these vintage instruments may mean that you will wish to carry out your own servicing. We have serviced this flute and it leaves our workshop in playing condition. These vintage instruments are fragile however and it may need further adjustment on arrival and so we stress this. We have tested the flute with an electronic tuner and it plays comfortably at 440hz. Rarely, this flute comes with a double flute case, as it was originally paired with a Louis Lot owned by the same person. I have seen a few Almeida's in my time and this is by far the nicest example and the best sounding. PLEASE NOTE that I will consider part-exchange with certain flutes, please contact me for further details

No.1 FLUTEMAKERS GUILD (1961) EWEN MCDOUGALL SOLID STERLING SILVER CLOSED-HOLE FLUTE

This is a golden opportunity to acquire the very first flute made by this iconic British maker. The Flutemakers Guild in London was started in 1961, following the breakaway of seven craftsman from the famous flute makers Rudall Carte & Co. These craftsman specialised initially in handmade wooden then silver flutes and have since individually become some of the most respected British flute makers, their work extremely sought-after.

This beautiful flute recently came to me from an estate clearance. On closer examination it was seen not to have a standard serial number, just the number '1' in FMG engraved script. I checked the date via hallmark records and it is dated for the year 1961. After consultation with a gentleman who holds the early FMG records, we have confirmed that this is indeed the very first FMG silver flute ever made. It was made by Ewen Mcdougall in 1961 with 0.18 tubing, pitched to A-442 and was sold by the Flutemakers Guild to a Mrs Chawmer in that same year. We have also checked both the wall thickness and pitch and they both match the details.  The soldered tone holes are deeper than those of the models made in the following years and the flute is beautifully constructed.

This is an extremely rare find and should be treasured. I hope that it finds the right home now that it has been rescued and given a new lease of life. I have priced very reasonably in my view for a flute that cannot be replaced. We have completely stripped the mechanism, cleaned and oiled the rods, adjusted the springs, cleaned the cups and painstakingly re-padded and re-corked the flute. The body has been buffed and polished and is in stunning condition. There are no dents, no scratches and the flute itself plays surprisingly well for one of this age. The added benefit is that it also plays to A-442. The case is not original but I have the old case in which it arrived. The older case is from the right time period I would say but it is not marked Flutemakers Guild and so I was not convinced that it was the correct case either and this is why I replaced it. I can forward photos of this to any potential buyer.

I have spoken to Andrew about this flute and he remembers making it for the gentleman in question (along with another to be marketed soon). We have completely restored it with new Pisoni Premium deluxe pads and hand cut corks, the silver has been buffed and there are no scratches or dents.

This is a rare find as Andrew only made flutes for a few years. He is now known for still making headjoints of a high quality but his flutes are hard to find.

RARE HAND-CRAFTED SOLID SILVER TIP LAMBERSON FLUTE (#571) WITH 14K GOLD LIP PLATE, OPEN HOLES, SOLDERED TONE HOLES AND B-FOOT IN SUPERB, FULLY SERVICED CONDITION

Nathaniel "Tip" Lamberson (1922–2005), also known as "N.D. Lamberson", was one of the premier American flute makers. He made a total of 730 flutes from 1968 to 1985 , when he officially retired from the flute-making industry. He has also worked in conjunction with Jack Moore, creating 11 Lamberson-Moore models and I sold one of these a few years ago, a Jack Moore body with Lamberson keywork and it was a superb flute.

This particular flute is in beautiful restored condition and new Lucien Deluxe pads (Please note that any repadding is subjective and if you decide that you prefer different padding/adjustment then this is a personal choice). The silver is in beautiful condition with no dents. The headjoint has a 14K solid gold lip, the tone holes are soldered and inline with a B footjoint. It comes with the original wood case engraved with NDL (N.D.Lamberson), which does have a crack in it but functions and the original carrycase which is very worn. I do not know the exact age but I would say that it was in the late 1970's. The pitch will be 440hz on a Cooper scale.

This is a rare flute and a beautiful example of American flute making history.

Handmade Muramatsu 9K Solid Gold Flute with Open-Holes, Inline G, SPLIT E (rare) Sterling Silver Keys, Pointed Key Arms and B-foot in Beautiful Condition Throughout

Muramatsu gold flutes stand in a class of their own and are some of the most sought-after flutes in the world. The sound is rich and lush and allows a wide range of tonal colour with a sweetness in sound that cannot be obtained with silver models. The body, head and footjoint are made of solid 9K gold and the keys and mechanism are solid silver with pointed key arms, white gold springs and drawn tone holes.

This particular flute is in beautiful fully overhauled condition, there are no scratches or dents and the pads have been repadded with Pisoni Lucien Deluxe. This is a very interesting flute as we noticed that all but four tone holes have been changed from drawn to soldered tone holes. We contacted Muramatsu and they commented that it was not manufactured with soldered tone holes but it is a beautiful job and exquisitely done (I have the correspondence). We normally suggest that it might have had damaged but there are no signs of this and the holes have been systematically changed across the flute including trill keys. Our best guess is that a highly skilled flute maker decided to change the tone holes and did not finish the work. The work would have been extremely skilled and expensive and this has obviously been done by a flute maker rather than a repairer. The flute plays beautifully and whether this has enhanced the sound I cannot comment but it certainly has not diminished the quality. Also, although it is an inline G, it has a split E mechanism and this was a factory addition, a rarity and an expensive upgrade. It also has the sought-after B-Foot upgrade with gizmo key.

Obviously this was a highly cherished flute and I know it has had two owners but the previous owner just remembers it being called a very special flute by the original seller. I do not know the exact age but this flute now looks and plays as if it is only a year old and is a stunning example. I have priced it extremely competitively to sell and this is a rare and superb opportunity to purchase a very high quality flute from one of the world's most coveted makers. This model with this specification currently retails at £15,500 and they are very hard to find on the used market. This therefore is an extremely competitively priced used model in top condition.

Beautiful Louis Lot (SML) - Fully restored solid silver closed-hole flute with C-foot (#9660)

Stunning and rare Louis Lot from the last era (Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire). The Louis Lot company was started in the latter part of the 19th century producing a flute with a seamed tube. His work was highly regarded and has been copied by other main flute makers such as Haynes and Altus over the years.

The Louis Lot company continued after Louis Lot's death and changed hands a number of times before finally being purchased in 1951 by Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire (SML). SML were known for producing high quality wind instruments and there are a number of flutes produced under the Louis Lot name, mainly plated but some very fine examples. As the serial numbers were changed when SML purchased the Louis Lot company, they run in line with SML serial numbers and not the old LL records. I believe this particular flute to have been made around the 1960's approximately.

This particular flute is a fine example and it is solid silver as it is hallmarked with the French crab sign and also with the SML logo which is the French hallmark guarantee after 1938. It has been marked on the strap as solid silver although we believe that this was a later addition. We have completely overhauled the body but kept the pads as they are seated and in good used condition. It is not a seamed tube as SML dispensed with this method but arguable the mechanism is more solid than the vintage LL flutes and it plays very nicely and to 440hz pitch without having been re-tuned. This is a superb opportunity to obtain a flute from one of the greatest flute makers, in beautiful playing condition and at an extremely reasonable price.

The design and construction is excellent and this is a high quality piccolo with a sterling silver head and body with soldered tone holes, silver plated mechanism and a conical bore design,  perfect for the serious musician and the concert stage. A more advanced piccolo than the Yamaha piccolo in this price range in my opinion. The silver is brighter than the wood and the lip makes it easy to blow.

This particular piccolo is superb throughout and the pads have plenty of life and are well seated. We have serviced and adjusted the piccolo and it is ready to go. The hardcase is brand new and is a snug fit.
