PHILIPP HAMMIG 658/2 GRENADILLA WOOD FLUTE WITH CLOSED-HOLES, OFFSET G AND SPLIT E.

This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a beautiful Hammig handmade flute in fully serviced condition, ideal for advanced students and professionals. Hammig are known as one of the world's top makers of wooden flutes and piccolos and this is a superb example. The serial number is 10174 (I do not know the exact age but I would guess at 1980-1990) and the pitch is at 440hz.

This flute has been stripped down and completely overhauled with new pads and also has been thoroughly cleaned and is in beautiful condition. It blows very well and better than some more recent wooden flutes that I have had from Powell and Sankyo. The keys and mechanism are nickel silver, silver plated and the pads are new. It also has the benefit of the split E mechanism, a D# roller on the foot and C# trill key.  As these flutes rarely come up and are of such lovely quality in construction and sound, I would strongly recommend this to any advanced student or wind doubler who wishes to move on to a quality wooden flute.

This particular flute has been cherished and is in beautiful condition with no marks. It comes with end caps which have cracked but are still in place to protect the flute in the case and the original Hammig hardcase, this is in fairly poor condition cosmetically as you can see but is sound and protects the flute. This model currently retails at £5,500 with this specification and so this is an excellent price for a beautiful flute.

EDWARD ALMEIDA #459 SOLID SILVER HANDMADE FLUTE

Edward Almeida has been making flutes since 1948, when he first apprenticed with Verne Q. Powell. In 1960 he was invited to become a part owner of the company, and was responsible for a number of significant innovations in flute making techniques which have since become standards in the industry. The Almeida Flute was introduced in 1969. By combining precision tooling and meticulous craftsmanship, Almeida ensured an accurately fitted and tuned instrument of consistently very high quality. Almeida flutes have a well deserved reputation for their lasting quality and for the consistently reliable sound preferred by discriminating performers worldwide. They are extremely coveted and very hard to find on the used market.

This particular flute is in beautiful original condition and has been recently stripped, cleaned and adjusted. It offers the inline G, soldered tone holes and the sought-after B-Foot. These flutes are sought-after mainly for the construction and superb mechanism but this particular flute also blows very well. It is a very rare model and a collector's dream and is ready to play. Please note that personal opinion on restoration and adjustment on these vintage instruments may mean that you will wish to carry out your own servicing. We have serviced this flute and it leaves our workshop in playing condition. These vintage instruments are fragile however and it may need further adjustment on arrival and so we stress this. We have tested the flute with an electronic tuner and it plays comfortably at 440hz. Rarely, this flute comes with a double flute case, as it was originally paired with a Louis Lot owned by the same person. I have seen a few Almeida's in my time and this is by far the nicest example and the best sounding. PLEASE NOTE that I will consider part-exchange with certain flutes, please contact me for further details

HANDMADE RUDALL ROSE & CARTE 1867 SYSTEM SOLID SILVER FLUTE BODY

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a superb flute from an iconic British maker. The 'ITA' on the body is a code for the serial number which is #468. Rudall & Rose were originally founded in 1822 and Richard Carte joined the company in 1851. The company was then Rudall Rose & Carte until 1872 when it became Rudall Carte. The company produced a number of simple/hybrid/boehm systems and this is the patented 1867 system created by Richard Carte. The Carte 1867 system, manufactured by Rudall, Rose, Carte & Co differs from the 1851 system only in the right hand, in the fingerings of F and F#. Like the 1851, it features an open G#, two thumb keys for B and Bb

This particular flute is in stunning condition for its age. We have stripped it down, repadded and freed the mechanism. It has not been tested with a headjoint as we do not have one of the correct bore without adjustment. Because of this I am selling in need of full adjustment once a headjoint has been added. Be aware however that we have spent a lot of time on the flute and the condition and the mechanism is superb and so this is now down to a player to adjust to suit. We do not have the original headjoint and so it is left open for someone to add a headjoint of their choice. I have a number including an FMG solid silver head which can be adjusted to fit.

This is a beautiful and rare flute and is sold as seen. The condition is superb throughout and this is the best example of a solid silver Rudall Rose & Carte flute I have seen. Perfect for the collector or player of these beautiful early british flutes. We have laid a modern head beside the assembled body and measured as though assembled. The measurements are from centre of embouchure to end of body 57.5cm and from crown to foot 64.9cm. This is as accurate as we can to give an indication of pitch.

YAMAHA YFL-674 SOLID SILVER OPEN-HOLE FLUTE WITH C-FOOT

This is a superb opportunity to acquire one of Yamaha's most sought-after models. The 674 is from Yamaha's professional range and has recently been discontinued. The head and body are solid silver throughout, the keys and mechanism are silver-plated with french pointed key arms and drawn tone-holes. A firm favourite with wind doublers and quite often mixed with a bespoke headjoint, this is a high quality professional model, made when the standard of Yamaha models was at its best.

The 674 model was made with Yamaha's new type-4 scale which has more accurately centered notes. The body is very well constructed and the mechanism light and accurate with white gold springs. It features open-holes with offset G and split E, popular with students and those with smaller hands. The EC headjoint cut features a slightly higher chimney wall (riser) and a more vertical cutaway to the lip plate. It therefore has an immediacy of sound which is crisp as well as firm and well rounded. It is easy to play and allows the player flexibility to add their own tonal colour to the sound.

Condition of this flute is superb throughout, it has had one owner, is approximately 10yrs old, the silver is in beautiful condition, pads have plenty of life and it has been fully serviced ready to go. It plays very nicely and cleanly and this is a lot of flute for the money. It also comes with a soft carrycase as seen in the photos.

HANDMADE FLUTEMAKERS GUILD (#179) SOLID STERLING SILVER OPEN-HOLE FLUTE

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a superb flute from an iconic British maker. The Flutemakers Guild in London was started in 1961, following the breakaway of seven craftsman from the famous flute makers Rudall Carte & Co. These craftsman specialised initially in handmade wooden then silver flutes and have since individually become some of the most respected British flute makers, their work extremely sought-after.

This particular flute is in stunning condition and is open holed with soldered tone holes, inline G, French pointed key arms and C foot. There are no dents, no scratches and the mechanism has been serviced and adjusted. The pads have plenty of life in them and the headjoint plays particularly well for a flute of this age. The age is estimated to be in the late 1960's to early 1970's and the pitch is A-442. I have shown the entry from the original FMG log book (now the ownership of Trevor James) which shows the pitch. The flute comes with a new handmade cherrywood case.

This is a beautiful and rare flute and represents the best of the British craftsmen of the 1960s-1970s when Flutemakers Guild was at its peak with such makers as Chris Bouckley, Harry Seeley, Ewen McDougall and Albert Cooper. This flute comes with a monogrammed Ewen McDougall headjoint. I do not have proof to show whether the flute was crafted by him but it is of the correct time period.

MIYAZAWA PCM SOLID SILVER/COPPER MIX CLOSED-HOLE FLUTE WITH MZ-3B HEADJOINT, OFFSET G, SPLIT E AND C-FOOT

Up for sale is a rare model to the European market. After lengthy experimentation and research, Miyazawa created some years ago the PCM silver alloy. This alloy contains silver, copper and other precious metals. PCM silver was developed from a desire to produce a material with a density greater than nickel silver and a hardness greater than sterling silver. Such a combination results in a material with a tonal range more colorful than nickel silver and with a response faster than sterling silver.

This is a superbly constructed handmade model with Miyazawa's very popular MZ-3B headjoint cut. The Miyazawa 3B Head Joint works best for the flute player with a relaxed embouchure. It has excellent projection and an abundance of overtones - an exciting head joint to play. The combination of this with the superb density of the PCM mix makes this an excellent intermediate/semi-professional model and perfect for the advancing student.

This particular flute is in beautiful condition with no marks. It is offered with recent pads that are well seated, it has been fully serviced and cleaned and comes with the Miyazawa hardcase and soft NAP carrycase (some marks).

IAN MCLAUCHLAN SOLID SILVER FLUTE HEADJOINT WITH 9K GOLD LIP AND RISER

Ian Mclauchlan has been producing headjoints since 1981 and his work is highly sought-after. Played by professional and amateur players the world over, his headjoints are easy to blow, free-flowing and produce a wide range of tonal colour. This particular headjoint has the 9K solid gold lip and riser, giving that extra sweetness and warmth to the sound. It is in beautiful used condition with no dents and a superb purchase.

A professional headjoint can make all the difference to a student flute. the majority of sound comes from the headjoint as it is the voice box of the flute. The body, whilst important, is not the main focus of improvement when looking to upgrade and simply changing the headjoint can transform the sound of the player. Headjoints can be fitted to almost any flute and please bear in mind that it is likely a small adjustment will be required. This is an inexpensive job and any flute repairer should be able to carry this out easily and quickly.  Please feel free to ring me to ask any questions that you may have or for any advice on the right flute. I am always happy to help and if I do not have the right flute for you, then I will search for one at no extra charge. Tel. (07939) 014248 for any advice or queries. Thanks, Kevin.

**Please note that whilst I accept returns on flutes, I cannot accept a return on a headjoint once it has been adjusted to fit another flute, so please bear this in mind**

BEAUTIFUL AND RARE BONNEVILLE PICCOLO (#5009)  WITH BOEHM SYSTEM KEYWORK - SUPERB OVERHAULED CONDITION

Auguste Bonneville was a 19th century Parisian silver-smith who worked for V.H.Godfroy and Louis Lot. In 1876 he set up his own workshop making flutes and piccolos for many years. His flutes were and are admired for their superior workmanship and I understand his piccolos were especially sought-after and are consequently hard to find.

This particular piccolo has the serial number 5009 and I cannot give you an exact idea of date but perhaps in the 1920s? It is a conical bore piccolo with a Boehm system and measures 315mm from crown to end of foot and 255m from centre of embouchure hole to foot and with the headjoint only pulled out a couple of mm plays at 440. The wood I believe is cocuswood and has a beautiful rich golden grain with no cracks. There is a tiny chip in the crown but that is all and so this piccolo is in remarkable condition. It has a closed G# is in Db and I believe the keys to be nickel-silver, silver plated. It has been completely stripped down, rods oiled, fully repadded and adjusted and it plays very nicely. As with all vintage instruments there are always personal opinions on exactly the right pad and adjustment and therefore you may wish to adjust to your taste or specification, but all flutes and piccolos are carefully and fully serviced and are sent in complete playing condition.

This is a rare piccolo in beautiful condition and to find one in such lovely condition is always exciting and this will make a perfect addition to someone's collection or of course to play. It comes with a vintage hardcase which I believe is the original but does not have markings. I am not an expert on vintage flutes and piccolos and so I will answer any questions as best I can.

Nathaniel "Tip" Lamberson (1922–2005), also known as "N.D. Lamberson", was one of the premier American flute makers. He made a total of 730 flutes from 1968 to 1985 , when he officially retired from the flute-making industry. He has also worked in conjunction with Jack Moore, creating 11 Lamberson-Moore models and I sold one of these a few years ago, a Jack Moore body with Lamberson keywork and it was a superb flute.

The silver is coin silver and in beautiful condition with no dents. The headjoint has a 14K solid gold lip and riser, the tone holes are soldered and inline with a C footjoint. It comes with the original wood case engraved with NDL (N.D.Lamberson) and the original carrycase which is very worn. I do not know the exact age but I would say that it was in the mid to late 1970's.

This is a rare flute and a beautiful example of American flute making history.  Please feel free to arrange to come and try the flute at your leisure. Currently it is with my repairer in Manchester and my mobile number is (07939) 014248. If you are unable to try the flute or live abroad then please be assured that I will accept a return* if the flute is not 100% perfect for you. I have no interest in players having the wrong instrument and pride myself on ensuring that my advice is unbiased.

HANDMADE RUDALL ROSE CARTE 1868 HYBRID BOEHM/SYSTEM SICCAMA WOOD FLUTE (#399)

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a superb flute from an iconic British maker. I had to do some research on this as it was a fmodel that I had not encountered before. I am advised that this is is a actually a hybrid of the Simple and Boehm system when the company was experimenting with new ideas. Apparently it is a great complex keyed Simple system flute for training to use simple system fingering coming from Boehm fingering. I do not know how many of these were made but this is #399 and it was made in 1868.

This particular flute is in stunning condition for its age. We have stripped it down and freed the mechanism but have left it for a collector to take to a vintage flute repairer to fully overhaul. These is a specialised area and because I realise that players who covet these beautiful instruments are very particular about how they are restored, it is better that this is done to personal taste. All parts are original and there are no cracks/repairs to the wood at all, it is in remarkable condition for its age. The original grease pot and case (with key) come with the flute and so it is complete in every way. A rare flute by a a coveted British maker and deserves to be brought back to life.

These flutes would have been high pitch and extending the tenon connection by around 15mm would just about bring it to 442hz. For collectors this is a flute that is increasingly rare to find, especially without cracks and for an early music enthusiast this is a superb purchase. I have been told that these models really sing and so a superb project for someone to finish. Please note that we have freed the mechanism and checked the flute over and it is complete but unplayable at present without a full overhaul. Because of this I have priced much lower than fully restored examples.
