FLUTE HEADJOINTS

Flute headjoints are the individual ‘voice’ of the flute. They are where the sound is produced and where it resonates the most. The shape and cut of the lip and embouchure has a big impact on the projection, tonal depth, colour, dynamics and overall sound that is being created. The body of course enhances and carries this sound through.

Choosing the right headjoint is vital.

With the above in mind, changing a whole flute sometimes is not the necessary course to changing the sound. If you have a good quality flute body and are happy with the mechanism and feel, then the best route would be to consider just changing the headjoint.
