Gebruder Monnig handmade alto flute for sale in stunning condition (#18227). Gebruder Monnig have been making woodwind instruments for over 100 years and their work is of the highest quality. They are based in Markneukirchen, the home of many famous instrument makers in Germany.
The alto flute, unlike the flute in C, is known for its mellow tone and lower notes and plays a fourth lower than the regular flute. It gives a beautiful deep sound and adds depth and tone to the flute section. Another difference between the alto flute and the regular flute, is that the tube on an alto flute is thicker than that of the flute in C, and longer too. This means the player needs more breath control, which can take practice and time to master. Alto flutes play in G and the fingering is the same primarily as a C flute playing a perfect fourth below.
This Gebruder Monnig handmade alto flute is a fine example and it is a beautifully constructed flute with very heavy silver plating. It comes with a solid silver straight head and a heavily plated curved head with wings and plays freely with a lush rich tonal quality. We have serviced the flute and the pads are excellent with plenty of life and seated well. This is a stunning handmade flute and an excellent example of handmade German quality.
