PHILIPP HAMMIG ALTO FLUTE (#9673) – New old stock

This is a beautiful handmade Philipp Hammig Alto Flute . The Hammig family legacy of crafting instruments began in 1780, passing through eight generations and nearly 230 years. The business reached the hands of Philipp Hammig in the early 1900s. Philipp Hammig developed his skills during the period of 1906 to 1920 and then started making instruments in his own name. In 1959 he passed his business to his son Gerhard but the flutes and piccolos remained under the name of Philipp Hammig. During the ‘state run’ period the instruments were marked GDR (German Democratic Republic) and this is from that period.

This Hammig alto flute is a fine example and a beautifully constructed instrument with very heavy silver plating and a solid silver lip and riser. It was new old stock and has been in storage a long time so there was tarnish and we have cleaned this. Condition therefore is superb. This is a superb handmade flute and an excellent example of handmade German quality. It comes with the hardcase and soft case surround. It also comes with two cleaning rods and screwdriver for adjustment. It plays well as is and so minor adjustment only has been made.
