Albert Cooper Silver Headjoint with 14K Lip (1969) – Excellent Condition

A very rare and beautiful Albert Cooper silver headjoint with 14K lip has been unearthed and is now up for sale.

Albert Cooper, a British maker, left Rudall Carte in the 1960s and subsequently set up his workshop in a shed at the end of his garden. By using traditional tools, he ultimately became one of the world’s most famous makers of headjoints and flutes.

When he passed away in 2011, he left behind a small but lasting legacy of beautifully constructed flutes and headjoints. Consequently, these instruments are highly coveted and, in most cases, very rarely appear on the market. Furthermore, he collaborated with Brannen Brothers, William Bennett, and Elmer Cole to develop the renowned ‘Cooper Scale.’

Albert Cooper constructed this silver headjoint in all likelihood with a flute as it does not bear the familiar ‘Barrel’ logo with the date above. Instead it bears the initials A.K.Cooper – London. It is 19 mm diameter which allows it to easily adjust to a modern flute, making it simple to fit as well. When played, it produces a beautifully warm, sweet sound with excellent resistance—quite simply, a truly beautiful headjoint, synonymous with Albert’s work.

Condition is very nice with small marks. The crown assembly and head are both hallmarked. The Lion Passant followed by the letter ‘O‘ indicates that this was made in 1969.
