For sale is a rare piece by master craftsman, Yoshiteru Akiyama. Yoshiteru Akiyama was originally master craftsman at Miyazawa, crafting their headjoints from 1977-1995 when he left to craft his own instruments. This Yoshiteru Akiyama silver headjoint with blackwood lip is one of his very early pieces prior to him opening Akiyama flutes. This particular headjoint was made whilst he was working for a brief time with Sakurai Flutes.

Yoshiteru Akiyama has been creating flutes and headjoints from 19th century silver tableware, a very traditional French style and inspired by Jean-Pierre Rampal, whom he met shortly before he passed away. His style draws very much on the French style of seamed tubes and his flutes have been likened to a modern Louis Lot. He creates only a small amount of handmade flutes and so his work is rare.

This particular headjoint was created with solid .900 silver with a wooden lip, crafted from seasoned Blackwood. It has a very full sound with excellent projection and mellow overtones from the wood. The stopper has been changed to a Robert Bigio one but the original will also be supplied. Resonance is excellent, especially in the lower registers and this is a very easy head to blow. A superb choice for those not wanting to go for a full wooden head and wanting the edge that silver gives in the sound but also with that wood sound.

Although this head was not engraved by Mr Akiyama, as prior to his workshop opening,  its provenance has been assured by him. This is therefore a rare and headjoint from a Master craftsman, reknowned for his time at Miyazawa and subsequently his own work.
