BEAUTIFUL BRANNEN-COOPER 14K GOLD HEADJOINT (Modern Cut) – BICK BRANNEN

Brannen-Cooper 14K Gold Headjoint – Brannen Brothers Flutemakers, Inc., was incorporated in 1978 with the mission of building the finest flutes and headjoints in the world.  When they started the company, brothers Bickford and Robert Brannen began an ongoing tradition of collaboration.  Notable collaborations have been with Albert Cooper, Johann Brögger, Eva Kingma, and Rainer Lafin.  The collaboration with Albert Cooper was firstly the ‘Cooper Scale’ and secondly the design of Brannen headjoints based upon his research.  Currently, there are two styles of Brannen headjoints:  the Modern Cooper and the Modified Cooper.  The Modern is very responsive and flexible.  The Modified is also very flexible with a little more resistance than the Modern.

This particular Brannen-Cooper 14K gold headjoint has the Modern Cooper cut. Importantly, it was not cut by Elizabeth Watson and so will have been an earlier head either made by or supervised by Bickford Brannen. The cork stopper has been replaced with a Seidmann stopper. The Seidmann plug will seal the end of the flute while adding resonance, due to its being made of an  acoustically reflective material , a hard acetal plastic. Its unique shape  creates space around the head joint tubing that allows the tubing walls to vibrate more fully. This headjoint is offered in beautiful condition and the only mark is a very small surface nick which I have tried to photograph.
