BEAUTIFUL HANDMADE FLUTEMAKERS of AUSTRALIA PALLADIUM HEADJOINT WITH STERLING SILVER WAVE LIP (#9710)

Flutemakers of Australia was formed in 1978 by John Lehner and Ray Holliday and continued for about 20 years. It was a very important partnership, producing handmade heads and flutes that have been sought-after around the world.

This Flutemakers of Australia Palladium headjoint is a rare and sought-after piece. Palladium comes from the Platinum family although is 15 times rarer and more valuable. It is also a harder and lighter material than Platinum, making it preferable in musical instruments. At one point it was possible to find Palladium headjoints on the market and at a lower cost than Platinum, however industrial demands for this rare metal has pushed prices to much higher than Platinum and so these headjoints are not now being made.

I have only seen two of these headjoints for sale in 20 years. They have a beautifully dark and strident sound and I was able to easily fit this to a 19mm diameter flute body. This particular headjoint has a wave lip and a wood and silver crown (original). It was most likely made in the mid to late 1980’s.
