Stunning and rare Louis Lot solid silver flute from the last era (Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire). The Louis Lot company was started in the latter part of the 19th century producing a flute with a seamed tube. His work was highly regarded and has been copied by other main flute makers such as Haynes and Altus over the years.

The Louis Lot company continued after Louis Lot’s death and changed hands a number of times before finally being purchased in 1951 by Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire (SML). SML were known for producing high quality wind instruments and there are a number of flutes produced under the Louis Lot name. As the serial numbers were changed when SML purchased the Louis Lot company, they run in line with SML serial numbers and not the old LL records. I believe this particular flute to have been made around the 1960’s approximately.

This particular flute is a fine example. It is solid silver and hallmarked with the French crab sign, which is the French hallmark guarantee after 1938. It has been marked on the strap as solid silver although we believe that this was a later addition. We have completely overhauled the body but kept the pads as they are seated and in good used condition. It is not a seamed tube as SML dispensed with this method but arguable the mechanism is more solid than the vintage LL flutes and it plays very nicely and to 440hz pitch without having been re-tuned. This is a superb opportunity to obtain a flute from one of the greatest flute makers, in beautiful playing condition and at an extremely reasonable price.
