PHILIPP HAMMIG BASS FLUTE (668/2) – CURVED HEADJOINT – SUPERB (#29903)

This is a beautiful handmade Philipp Hammig Bass Flute in C (450hz). The Hammig family legacy of crafting instruments began in 1780, passing through eight generations and nearly 230 years. The business reached the hands of Philipp Hammig in the early 1900s. Philipp Hammig developed his skills during the period of 1906 to 1920 and then started making instruments in his own name. In 1959 he passed his business to his son Gerhard but the flutes and piccolos remained under the name of Philipp Hammig.

This flute is a fine example and it is a beautifully constructed instrument with very heavy silver plating and we believe a solid silver lip. The bass flute is known for its rich, mellow tone and deep resounding lower notes. A bass flute is pitched in the key of C. This is pitched one octave lower than the concert flute, playing from C3 to C6 (two octaves above middle C). It comes with a curved head and plays beautifully with a rich dark quality. This plays at 442hz with a slight pull out of the head and so is perfect with modern pitch instruments. We have serviced the flute and the pads are excellent with plenty of life and seated well. This is a superb handmade flute and an excellent example of handmade German quality. The current retail price for this flute is £6,400 so this represents superb value for a flute in such nice condition.
