Description

Flutemakers Guild Handmade Flute (Chris Bouckley) – Sterling silver flute with open holes, offset G, split E and B foot (#602)

This is a very rare opportunity to acquire a beautiful Flutemakers Guild handmade flute from an iconic British maker. The Flutemakers Guild in London began in 1961 after seven craftsmen separated from Rudall Carte & Co. These craftsmen were Ewen McDougall, Harry Seeley, David Keen, John Wicks, Roger Harris, David Tebbutt, and John Wells. Initially, these craftsmen specialized in handmade wooden and then silver flutes. Over time, they became some of the most respected British flute makers, and their work remains highly sought after.

Chris Bouckley joined later and was trained for nine years by the Guild. His work is rarely found and so this is a much rarer flute than those by the founder members. It was constructed in 1987 and sold in March of that year to a T.Kipling. I believe it was then sold to the current owner before coming to us.

The Flutemakers Guild adopted the Cooper scale (designed by Albert Cooper & Elmer Cole) –  in 1983 and so consequently, this flute has the Cooper scale. It is also a Boehm system flute and features open-holes with offset G keys, split E mechanism and the upgrade of a B-footjoint (with gizmo key).

Condition of this particular flute is superb. We have carried out a full overhaul including new headcork, re-oiled rods, new pads and full adjustment. There is no damage to the flute and the silver has been carefully hand polished to bring it back. It plays beautifully with a rich tone and darker overtones.
