Description
BEAUTIFUL HANDMADE FLUTEMAKERS of AUSTRALIA PALLADIUM HEADJOINT WITH STERLING SILVER WAVE LIP (#9710)
Flutemakers of Australia, established in 1978 by John Lehner and Ray Holliday, operated for about 20 years. This partnership significantly produced handmade heads and flutes that earned global acclaim.
This used Flutemakers of Australia Palladium headjoint is a rare and highly sought-after piece. Palladium, part of the Platinum family, is 15 times rarer and more valuable. It also stands out as a harder and lighter material than Platinum, making it desirable for musical instruments. Although Palladium headjoints were once more affordable than Platinum, industrial demand has increased their prices and led to their discontinuation.
I have encountered only two of these headjoints for sale over the past 20 years. They produce a beautifully dark and strident sound. Additionally, I fitted this headjoint to a 19mm diameter flute body with ease. It features a wave lip and an original wood and silver crown. Likely made in the mid to late 1980s, this headjoint remains a rare find.
