Description
ND (Tip) Lamberson handmade flute (#172)
Finding an ND Tip Lamberson Flute for sale secondhand offers a real treat, as it represents a truly handmade instrument crafted by a world-renowned craftsman.
ND or “Tip” Lamberson stood out as one of the great American flutemakers. He operated in Oskaloosa, IA, and gained fame as a highly sought-after flutemaker throughout the 1960s until his retirement around 1985. He heavily influenced other major flutemakers, including Alton McCanless, who assisted him, and Jack Moore.
Lamberson made 730 flutes in total and crafted this particular flute in the mid-1970s. He constructed it entirely from solid silver (.900), a material he commonly used for his flutes. The tone holes are soldered, the keys feature an open-hole and inline design, and the flute includes a B footjoint.
We stripped down this flute and fully serviced it. We left the pads in place because they have plenty of life remaining. We polished the silver, oiled the internal rods, and adjusted the mechanism. The headjoint plays effortlessly, producing a full, broad range of tonal colors that showcase the skill of a true craftsman. Overall, the flute displays superb craftsmanship and delivers a delightful playing experience.
