BEAUTIFUL MATEKI MO-062 (#0022) HANDMADE SOLID SILVER FLUTE WITH OPEN-HOLES, SOLDERED TONE HOLES, INLINE G AND C-FOOT

This is indeed a rare opportunity to purchase an early Mateki MO-062 handmade solid silver flute (#0022) by one of the world’s top makers. Mateki, which translates to Magic Flute in Japan, represented a small but highly esteemed company known for its exceptional craftsmanship. Founded by Mr Shigeru Watanabe , a former craftsman for Suichi Tanaka, the company built a strong reputation for high-quality flutes. Sadly the company closed in 2019 following the death of their flute maker, but their legacy lives on in the beautiful flutes that they produced.

The Mateki MO-062 was towards the top of their range of handmade flutes. It is made entirely of Sterling silver with soldered tone holes and French pointed key arms.

This particular flute is an early example, being #0022 of flutes made by Mateki. This would put the age as early 1980’s and it was likely crafted by Mr Watanabe himself. In fact the headjoint is marked S. Watanabe. Condition is excellent and the pads will be replaced before sale with Pisoni Lucien Deluxe.

These flutes stand out for their beautifully rich and mellow tonal colors, excelling particularly in crossover work and jazz. This MO-062 model features a hand-cut Shigeru Watanabe headjoint, a solid silver body with open holes, soldered tone holes, inline G, pointed key arms and a C foot. As a result, it delivers a superb, responsive, and warm sound.

Given their scarceness and exceptional quality, I highly recommend this instrument to any player. This particular flute has been cherished and remains in superb condition.
