Kanichi Nagahara, born and raised in Japan, began his flute-making career at the Sankyo Flute Company in Japan, where he gained extensive experience in the art of flute craftsmanship. Then, in 1987, Kanichi moved to the United States and subsequently joined two well-known Boston flute manufacturers. During his three-year tenure, he primarily worked in the piccolo and headjoint departments, building upon his skill set and knowledge.

In 1990, Mr. Nagahara left that position to pursue his own vision by starting his own company. He founded Nagahara Flutes in North Reading, MA, in 1991 as a small team of two. As the company expanded, they relocated in 1999 to their current workshop in Chelmsford, MA.
