For students aiming to advance to a flute that will support their progress through Grade 8, it is essential to start with solid silver. Consequently, the Yamaha YFL-411 flute offers an ideal upgrade. It features a solid silver headjoint, body, and footjoint, along with silver-plated keys. Because the density of the solid silver imparts a warmer and wider range of tonal colors, this flute is highly recommended. Additionally, it includes closed holes, offset G, and split E—features with which students will already be comfortable. Thus, this flute serves as an excellent intermediate model, ensuring both durability and a well-rounded sound.
This specific flute is in good used condition and was probably constructed in the 1990’s. There are no plating issues, no dents, just some light marks from use and it has undergone a full service (Saving of £125). This involves complete stripping down of the mechanism, oiling the internal rods, polishing the body, keys and mechanism and a new head cork. The pads have plenty of life and are seating well without fraying or tears. It plays with a lovely rich sound, synonymous with the solid silver Yamaha models.
